Courses Offered External Styles Shao'lin Ch'uan- Northern and Southern: Considered to be the most superior and - comprehensive fighting system in the world, Shao'lin trains the body through rigorous practice of forms, techniques and sparring. Developing the mind through discipline, determination and perserverence and cultivates the spirit through meditation techniques. Truly one of China's greatest gifts to the American people, Shao'lin has stood the test of time dating back to the year 1275 AD. Chinese Kenpo: Kenpo was made famous by the late Ed Parker who taught many celebrities including Elvis Presley. Kenpo uses the scientific approach towards self-defense. Employing the knowledge of the human body and its reaction to change. Kenpo deals with close range fighting using the hands as its main weapon. Many call it the "Quick Hands Art." Internal Styles Tai Chi Ch'uan One of the best known self help disciplines in the world today, Tai Chi is a centuries old martial and healing art that uses the body's own energy called "chi" as it's main source of power for self-defense and/or healing. Through slow meditative movements, breathing exercises and focus training one learns how to strengthen and properly utilize their chi for maintaining good health and self protection. Pa Kua Chang Pa Kua uses the principles of the I-Ching (book of changes) as its main structure. Ever constant change and circular motion is the source behind it's philosophy as well as its self-defense strategy. Fast evasive footwork and the use of eight main palm changes lays the foundation for a much respected martial and healing art. Hsing-I Ch'uan Hsing-I is often referred to as the "bridging art" because it links the external and internal styles with it's powerful external appearance and hidden internal technique. Based on the "wu hsing" or 5 element theory where creation and destruction are constantly in motion, Hsing-I uses a no nonsense approach to self-defense. Hsing-I and Pa Kua are commonly taught together. |
